What is Communication Training?  What will I learn?

Communication Training is a system comprised of useful communication tools and practices.  The foundation of the system is Mindfulness, which is the non-judgmental awareness of what is happening in the moment, both internally and externally.  You will practice monitoring your internal responses to others’ communication as well as tracking others’ responses to you.  You will learn when you can respond skillfully, when you need to edit your words carefully and when to walk away from the situation to calm down and regroup.  You will learn Spacious Listening, a method which helps others feel heard and to speak in a relaxed way without interruption.  Communication Training will teach you how to validate and collaborate with opposing points of view rather than negate and fight them.  These techniques diffuse conflict by fostering mutual respect and understanding.

Communication Training consists of instructional articles and practices that are offered freely through Easefull Counseling emails, blogs and teleseminars.  You can also access individual training and feedback through confidential consulting sessions with Dana Ingersoll via Skype video, phone, or in Boston.

How quickly will I see improvement? How many sessions will I need?

Improvement varies from person to person and is hard to predict.  It is certainly possible to make significant changes in your communication style solely from the information offered freely in the blogs and teleseminars.  Some people want the individual attention of an occasional consulting session to discuss how they are applying the training and to focus on where they struggle.  Others benefit from periodic, ongoing sessions to keep them on track towards their goals and to monitor their progress.  We will discuss your goals and what frequency or number of sessions matches your schedule, energy and budget.

Can I do a video or phone session with my partner or another person?

Yes, you can certainly have sessions with both parties involved.  Dana will most likely meet with each of you individually before all three of you meet together.  You can each be in the same room or in two different countries.

Online counseling is a great way to work on communication and other relationship issues when you live apart from your partner or travel frequently.  Dana’s training as a Licensed Psychotherapist has prepared her to work therapeutically with the full range of interpersonal issues that arise for couples, families and individuals.
